Exposed

October 1, 2014

One of the latest in my SeasideFlipside series, a collection of in-camera multiple exposures on a single frame of film, was selected as part of the Exposed DC / InstantDC Fall Review, and it also placed first in the competition. I took this photo in Antigua during a birthday trip this spring, and it’s one of my favorites. Preview all of the winning photographs here.

Paris – encore!

June 24, 2014

My photos will be travelling to Paris in a few weeks for a 3-day Adah Rose Pop-Up Show at Galerie du Haut Pavé on July 11-13. This is my second time showing in Paris since April!

Highlights

My Polaroid transfer that’s in the Paris show was featured in Fisheye Magazine‘s coverage of the show. Prints are available through Les Petits Polas here. The original is now in the collection of artist Lisa K. Rosenstein.

Updates

April 3, 2014

April 2014 is turning out to be very exciting for several reasons, not least of which is my first international show! I will have a series of photos in Les Petits PolasPolaroid & I, an exhibit exploring self-portraits through instant film. My work abstractly represents me by recalling features of my childhood backyard, among other things. If you happen to be in Paris, the show runs from April 18 through May 8, 2014. For complete details and a list of participating artists, take a look at the Facebook event listing.

I will also have a photo from the SeasideFlipside series in Focal Point: Fine Art and Creartive Photography at Maryland Federation of Art in Annapolis, Maryland. The show is from May 23 to June 15, 2014, with a reception on Sunday, June 1 from 3 to 5 p.m.

Photo/Video 2013

June 7, 2013

I made it past the two rounds to have three of my photos from my Seaside series selected for Photo/Video 2013 at Artisphere in Rosslyn, Viginia – my neighborhood! The exhibit is curated by Frank Goodyear, curator of photographs, National Portrait Gallery, and Kaitlin Booher, assistant curator of photography and media arts, Corcoran Gallery of Art, and

Be sure to check out the videos, too! My good friend Julie Wolsztynski, with whom I shared last year’s Artomatic space, has a very clever video piece focusing on blatant and subliminal television messages.

Photo/Video 2013 opens Thursday, June 13, with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m., and remains on view through July 27. I hope to see you there!

Updates

April 13, 2013

Hi, 2012 was a busy and productive year, so I took the opportunity over the winter to hibernate. Now, I’m starting to work on some new things and apply to shows. Thanks for your interest and stay tuned for new work and updates in 2013. – Angela

Coming in November

October 14, 2012

November is starting to look like a pretty big month with photos in several shows in addition to writing and editing work on the FotoWeek blog.

This double-exposure of the beach taken in May was selected for Upheaval, Target Gallery‘s FotoWeek exhibit, from November 3 to December 2, 2012. The opening reception is on November 8 from 6 to 8 p.m.

FotoWeek just announced the winners of the 2012 competition and a Polaroid I shot in 2011 at Sandy Point State Park in Maryland placed 3rd in the Modern Vintage category!

Adah Rose Gallery will host a pop-up exhibit featuring photography from a diverse group of artists, including myself, during the FotoWeek festival. Stop by the Groovy Pop Up at Kate’s, party of the gallery’s Art Travels series, on the evenings of November 13 and 14 from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

Plus, I will be donating a photo for Metro DC Arts for Arthritis Gala, an art auction benefiting the Arthritis Foundation, on November 17 at the Ritz Carlton in Washington, D.C.

That’s all for now. I hope to see you at some of the openings!

Two Openings Plus New Work

July 19, 2012

Yesterday I installed new work in one of my favorite summer shows, DC Art Center’s Wall Mountables. I am showing work from my Seaside series, which includes progressions of waves forming, cresting, and crashing, as well as Seaside Flipside, a series of photos made using multiple exposures. My original presentation idea for this show did not work out as planned and, as a result, the work on view are unframed “test prints” that are not printed from the negative using traditional darkroom processes as I normally do.

Wall Mountables opens with a reception on Friday, July 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. and is on view through August 25.

Thanks to the power outages from last month’s derecho, the Art Libs opening reception was rescheduled for Saturday, July 21, from 3 to 5 p.m. Still unsure about the show’s concept? Read about curator Sherill Anne Gross’ inspiration for the exhibit in Montgomery County Sentinel’s article, Viewers, Artists Create Storyline in ‘ART LIBS’ Exhibit.
