Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit the Art Reactor gallery in Hyattsville for a wet plate collodion demo by Barry Schmetter. This is the tintype that I made using a 100-year-old Century large format view camera with a 100 year old Petzval f/4 lens. I coated the glass plate with collodion (thanks to my badass cell culture skills and awesome dexterity, I didn’t spill a drop!) and then sensitized the plate using silver halide. While the plate was still wet, it was exposed to create this image.
The plate wasn’t quite dry and still needed to be varnished, so Barry scanned this image and posted to Facebook this morning, where I swiped it.
You can read more about this on this week’s S+ART blog post.
